I think that the thesis statement is that friends are friends and no matter what friends should always stay together whatever the circumstances are and I think the author really showed this well in the book because Cal forgave Toby for what he did and that was a very hard thing to do because Toby really messed up by running away from that funeral and I can understand how he feels about Wayne and how he thought Wayne should be his brother [and I think that Cal is a jerk considering he never wrote back and it would probably be his last to Wayne] because Cal never wrote and Toby did. Cal went and toby can be sad all he wants but the least he could do is pay his respects and show up but no, he had to see the fat man and ignore the real world and be like Ferris, I’m not a fan of making fun of people but Ferris is a drunk that ruined his life and wants to drink beer more than actually do things in life that will at least help other people if not himself. Scarlet was a great character but I think that she could have told Toby that she was still in love with Juan earlier than she did because she only Told toby that she didn't love him after Juan and her had cooled down and were going to get back together again and that brings me back to her using toby just to show Juan that she can get someone other than him. The book is about forgiveness and letting go because the whole Cal-toby event was the biggest part of the book because the mom leaving was fine but that doesn’t mean he can take it out on his friends and family.
